BEFORE
This cramped, narrow galley kitchen was poorly suited to an active family with two growing children. Sherry Hope-Kennedy of Walnut Creek, CA-based Studio SHK worked with the family to transform the kitchen and its adjacent dining areas into an open space that could accommodate the active young family, as well as the mobility needs of their aging parents, who often visit.

AFTER
In order to create the space the family
dreamed of and mitigate foot traffic problems, Hope-Kennedy’s team had to open up the kitchen to the dining room and breakfast nook, as well as raise the sunken living room to the level of the kitchen floor. The new kitchen features abundant storage and is brightened by overhead lights and the oversized picture window in the dining room. Veined quartz and walnut cabinetry add texture and interest to the space’s neutral color palette.
