K/BIS 2008 Sprouts Green News, Products & Trends

Chicago, IL The 27th annual K/BIS, held at Chicago’s McCormick Place, sprouted some interesting green news, trends and products to help educate design professionals. For instance, former EPA Administrator and Republican New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman delivered the show’s keynote address about sustainability, a prominent theme throughout the show. Whitman noted that kitchen and bath designers play a key role in educating the public about lessening environmental impact and said that selling green design and products is similar to selling eco-sensitive public policy: It’s about getting people to do something for the common good. She also noted that explaining the benefits of making the upfront financial investment, as well as the availability of the various functional and stylish green products, can help dealers and designers educate their clients about green design. The show continued the green theme with conference seminars – such as Implementing Sustainability, led by Jonas Carnemark, CR, CKD – which provided an in-depth look at what companies across the country are doing to incorporate eco-friendly design.
