Winners Named in NKBA’s 2008 Student Design Contest

Hackettstown, NJ — Eight students have been named as winners in the National Kitchen & Bath Association’s (NKBA) 2008 Student Design Competition.

Co-sponsored by American Woodmark and Sub-Zero/Wolf Appliance, the annual competition is designed to identify the rising stars of the kitchen and bath industry. Students are presented with a scenario that imitates a potential real-life project, and are asked to meet the needs of imaginary homeowners.

This year, students were challenged to create a functional kitchen or bath with natural finishes that complement the architectural style of a Spanish-style ranch home in Texas. The students were required to meet the needs of a newlywed couple whose diverse interests and tastes had to be reflected in the room design.

Winners in the kitchens cateogry include:

  • 1st Place: Tanja Uzar, Brigham Young University.
  • 2nd Place: Satoshi Serizawa, Seminole Community College.
  • 3rd Place: Sanchali Srivastava, West Valley College.
  • Honorable Mention: Jennifer Lindley, Weber State University.

Winners for bathrooms are:

  • 1st Place: Danielle D. Mohlman, University of Nebraska.
  • 2nd Place: Emily Wilson, Brigham Young University.
  • 3rd Place: Marie Hagberg, Century College.
  • Honorable Mention: Amber Wedige, University of Nebraska.

A total of $10,000 in scholarships was awarded to the winners, according to competition sponsors. An awards presentation will take place at the 2008 Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (K/BIS) this month in Chicago.
