WASHINGTON, DC — With inflationary pressures and other industry headwinds continuing to impact the nation’s housing and remodeling markets, domestic shipments of major home appliances declined sharply in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same period a year ago, the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers reported.
According to the Washington, DC-based AHAM, major appliance shipments totaled 18.3 million units from January through March, down 18% from the 22.3 million units that shipped during the same three-month period in 2022. Quarterly declines were posted in all key product categories, including kitchen cleanup (-42.6%), cooking (-12.9%), laundry (-2.3%) and food preservation (-11.5%), AHAM said.
