Appliance Shipments Post Sharp Third-Quarter Rebound

WASHINGTON, DC — Domestic shipments of major home appliances rebounded sharply in the third quarter, after experiencing sharp mid-year declines due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers reported this week.

The Washington, DC-based AHAM reported that appliance shipments for the 13 weeks between June 28 and Sept. 26 totaled 21.2 million units, up 14.1% from the 18.6 million units shipped during the same period in 2019. Despite the upturn, year-to-date appliance shipments through September were nevertheless off 0.1% compared to shipments for the same nine-month period last year, AHAM said.
