Exotic Materials ‘Pop’ Against Soft Palette
A wealth of exotic materials – including Sapele Pommele African exotic wood cabinets and a Verde Karzi Satin granite countertop – make a bold statement in this small bath.
Designer Ellie R. Baker, CKD, CAPS, CGP, of Brier, WA-based Soleil By Design, combined angular details such as tiled wainscoting, and the contemporary, sloping single-handle Millennium faucet from Kraus with curved, more sensuous elements like a custom blown glass vessel sink and a toilet from Kohler’s Persuade Curv series.
Creating an art-inspired space was important to the clients, says Baker: “An artistic hand is apparent through the invention of a
quirky and engaging medicine cabinet design,
as well as the tiled wainscoting topped with a
hand-glazed mosaic
porcelain border.”
Bath Showcases Sumptuous Simplicity
Beginning with a palette of white and black, designer Victoria Shaw, of Pickering, ON-based Binns Kitchen+Bath Design, created a geometric design for this traditional bath.
According to Shaw, the design’s success is measured in its spacious feeling.
“A curved drop-in tub from Maximizer creates the feeling of more floor space, and the inclusion of glass paneled vanity and cabinet doors as well as a glass shower enclosure all work together to create an open, less confined environment,” she says.
Faucets from Kohler’s Bancroft line in chrome and Toto’s Carlyle toilet round out the product selections.
Balinese Travel Inspires Bath Design
The owners of this bath fell in love with the outdoor showers they used during their travels to Bali, according to designer Scott Gjesdahl of Lynnwood, WA-based Bristol Design & Construction. Gjesdahl, with co-designer Sandra Gjesdahl, incorporated as much of that feel as they could into this interior bathroom and shower.
“Stacked pebble accent tile, a black basalt shower floor and other natural stone materials were incorporated,” Gjesdahl says of the textures featured in the bath’s design.
Porcelain copper tile imitates a worn wall, while honed Maron Bois granite counter and shower shelf bring to mind smooth, cool river rocks, according to the designer.
The vanity was custom made by Bristol Design in Afromosia and Wenge. A white porcelain Duravit sink, Toto Nexus toilet and fixtures from Hansgrohe’s Axor Citterio collection complete the bath’s fresh look.
