It’s not just the weather that’s warming up – colors are also taking on warmer hues as we move toward spring. Softer whites and greys and light woods are seeing renewed interest, offset by rich colors like bright yellow, deep green and terracotta.
Below are some of the hottest color trends right now.
–While white remains a perennial favorite, the newest shades of white are softer and warmer, with hot hues running the gamut from warm whites with a touch of taupe to crisp, clean whites that form a backdrop for warm, bright pops of color.
–Neutral colors like Benjamin Moore’s Metropolitan – dubbed the company’s 2019 Color of the Year – are popular for their ability to create balance with the deeper colors that are being brought in, such as navy, charcoal or deep green.
–Grey seems to be receding as the color du jour, with the grey tones of yesteryear morphing into grey-blue shades, or greys with undertones of brown.
–Designers can expect to see a plethora of strong colors that are bold but also nuanced, including hunter green, coral, teal, pink, navy and rich shades of yellow.
–Terracotta hues are trending high, with a terracotta color – Cavern Clay – chosen as Sherwin-Williams’ 2019 Color of the Year.
–Also in that color family is Pantone’s 2019 Color of the Year – Living Coral. Viewed by Pantone as a nurturing color, it embodies the desire for playful expression.
–Deep greens that tie into nature are also hot this year, with PPG naming Nightwatch (a dark green with undertones of blue) as it’s 2019 Color of the Year.
–Bright yellow is also a color to watch, with a growing number of younger consumers drawn to this fresh and fearless shade.
–The trend toward warmer colors also impacts metallics, with warm golds and coppers seeing greater interest, along with shades of matte black.
