Dan Bawden

by Autumn McGarr

Dan Bawden, CAPS, CGR, GMB, GMR, CGP, owner, Legal Eagle Contractors, in Houston, TX, has educated and trained not only himself but countless others, sharing his 35 years of experience in the industry.

Predicting the rapidly growing needs of America’s senior population, Bawden started the CAPS (Certified Aging in Place Specialist) program in 1980 for the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). The designation was created by Bawden and his fellow NAHB Remodelers, along with the AARP. He was invited to Japan to promote Aging in Place practices and has worked with major influencers to promote Universal Design within the remodeling field. He instructs courses in CAPS semi-annually.

He was the first remodeler to serve as president of the Greater Houston Builders Association and went on to serve as national chairman of NAHB Remodelers.

Legal Eagle Contractors is a full-service residential remodeling firm that incorporates Universal Design, Aging in Place and Accessible Design concepts into kitchen and bath renovations, custom homes, additions, whole-house, remodeling and outdoor living spaces.

Bawden’s showroom is a living showcase of Universal Design features and products that demonstrate to clients how this approach to design and building can be integrated seamlessly into their renovation projects.
