Built in 1906, the owners wanted to remodel their kitchen and chose historic details such as quartersawn oak floors, furniture-quality quartersawn oak island with rounded corners, stained glass on upper cabinets, natural materials and a new passthrough from the kitchen to the dining room. The floor and ceiling were out of level so all of the cabinetry and millwork had to be hand scored, which was less expensive than tearing out the floor and ceiling. The remodel moved the sink from the island to the countertop to provide more uninterrupted work space and make the island a better place to congregate.
