BEFORE
Kathryn O’Donovan of Hinsdale, IL-based Normandy Remodeling faced several challenges with this kitchen remodel. The homeowner’s existing cabinets and appliances were beginning to both fall apart and fail, so they needed to be replaced. Additionally, the original layout of the kitchen had a peninsula and a small island that created a crowded feeling that needed to be addressed. Finally, since the clients’ intention was to move within five years, O’Donovan had to make sure to use finishes that would appeal to the clients now, while also being appropriate for resale.
AFTER
Once O’Donovan convinced her clients that a new kitchen footprint with an open floor plan was the way to go, they were on board with her eliminating the peninsula and creating a larger island with seating. Classic white cabinets and neutral finishes were used to ensure good resale value. The designer also increased the height of the window to bring in more natural light. Instead of a cooktop and double oven, a 48″ Wolf professional range was installed. O’Donovan’s clients requested a key focal point for the space, so as the pièce de resistance, a mirrored refrigeration armoire was selected to be placed over the Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer.
