To create a contemporary, light-filled space, this project scope encompassed a full demolition and architectural overhaul to open the previously dark, compartmentalized area. Two existing steel beams were raised flush with the ceiling and walls were opened or removed for uninterrupted visual lines. Folding doors open the side of the house to the outdoors and a pass-through bar at the sink highlights the indoor/outdoor connection. A section of peninsula wall cabinets with glass on doors on both sides allowed for increased storage without visual obstruction. A raised seating area on the main kitchen island faces the cooking area and bar on the deck to give socializing areas near work spaces without interfering with them.
