Kitchen Showroom Environment

It’s human nature to want to know what’s around the corner. The updated showroom from Kitchens by Deane, Inc., located here, plays on that natural instinct with its design one in which client are gently coaxed through the showroom in a circle. “The eye constantly ‘wants to see what’s around the bend,’ ” comments Peter Deane, principal of Kitchens by Deane, Inc.
The myriad styles featured in the showroom are presented in “environments,” not traditional vignettes, according to Deane.
The space, which features traditional to ultra modern styles, is designed to cater to the senses. The sense of smell is enticed with the aroma of fresh bread or cookies baking. Satellite music envelops the visitor. And, visually, larger-scale kitchen displays incorporate several styles, wood species and finishes all within the same environment, Deane notes.
A NEW BEGINNING
After a major renovation, the new Kitchens by Deane showroom was celebrated with a Gala Grand Opening last year. The black-tie affair included 150 guests among them architects, interior designers, suppliers, the media, local Chamber of Commerce members and the city’s mayor.
Several of the company’s employees were instrumental in the renovation, which affected three-fourths of the previously existing showroom. “Design work was shared by several of our designers, with help from our engineering department,” states Deane. The overall showroom design and installation were overseen by Bryan Reiss, CKD, CBD, and Peter Deane, while contracting and logistics were overseen by Andre Gattyan.
The building that houses the 3,500-sq.-ft. showroom has two walls of glass facing the street corners. “In the evenings, the displays in the windows are glowing,” says Deane. “They are a focal point for passersby.”
The larger scale kitchens throughout the showroom provide ample space to showcase appliances, many of which are working. “We encourage their use if the client is interested,” notes Deane. There are 23 kitchen displays in all, with two complete working kitchens.
Among the appliances showcased are items from La Cornue, Sub-Zero, Wolf, Asko, Best, Indepen-dent, Viking, Dacor, Bosch, Miele, Marvel, U-Line and Fisher & Paykel. In addition, high-end custom cabinets are on display, including lines from Draper DBS, Downsview Kitchens, Premier Custom Built, Dutchmade, Homestead and Heritage Custom Cabinetry. A wide range of fixtures, fittings and accoutrements from Franke, Concinnity, Whitehaus, HP Austin, Waterworks and Cheng Designs (Geocrete) are also highlighted. Local custom metal fabrication (hoods, counters), Pyro-lav lava stone countertops and custom wood countertops round out the offerings.
In addition to its product offerings, Kitchens by Deane has a strong staff, including nine designers, three project design managers, two design assistants and one AutoCAD operator. Among the 25-person staff, there are three CKDs, four CKD/CBDs, two CMKBDs, one ASID and three employees taking the CKD exam this fall.
Kitchens by Deane also offers a Web site, email, maintenance/repair and service. In fact, the firm responds to about 300 service calls a year to jobs that are closed, some going back 15 to 20 years.
To attract customers, Kitchens by Deane stays active both with marketing events and with community relations. The showroom plays host to AIA, ASID and other professional meetings, and has supplier presentations for allied professionals.
The firm is also a member of the Stamford Chamber of Commerce and New Canaan Rotary, and hosts network meetings and social events. “We host charity events, wine tastings and restaurant tastings,” notes Deane.
The company has also teamed with a local area business Culinary Works which provides hands-on cooking classes “that are not only educational, but fun,” he comments.
Full circle, therefore, not only defines Kitchens by Deane’s physical showroom, but its business and community philosophy, as well.
