Chelsea Allard, Case Design/Remodeling, Charlotte, NC
Removing walls and columns separating the dining room, sitting room and kitchen resulted in a 550-sq.-ft space with interesting angles and a wide-open floor plan. But Chelsea Allard of Case Design/Remodeling in Charlotte, NC was undaunted by the large space, creating a kitchen that met the clients’ desire for one space that would act as the chef’s kitchen and another as a quick kitchen designed for clean-up and casual seating.
The clients were very particular about their choices for the space, which they wanted to reflect a modern French country aesthetic. Premium, custom-built appliances manufactured in France anchor the design, and include a 72″ La Cornue Grand Palais 180 range and rotisserie in a custom color formulated to match the color of the label on the Veuve Clicquot Champagne bottle – the couple’s favorite. Daltile’s Rittenhouse Square 3″x6″ white beveled subway tile backsplash adds texture, and tucked into the cabinetry above the range is a custom hood from Vent-A-Hood.
The cabinetry throughout is the Ridgeway door style in a custom navy finish from Crystal Cabinet Works. The cabinets include such custom features as full-height bi-fold doors, spice and root vegetable storage and a central vacuum system in the toe kicks.
Both islands are topped with Calacatta Caldia honed marble counters with a 3″ mitered edge. Fluted apron-front sinks from La Cornue are featured in each, paired with Rohl faucets. The faucets, wire mesh in the cabinets and Alno Moderne knobs and pulls showcase a polished brass look that echoes the tone in the range.
Dotted throughout are an integrated Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer, Bosch convection microwave and dishwasher, and Sub-Zero undercounter refrigerator. Allard completed the space by incorporating LED lantern-style lighting and antique reclaimed barn board flooring to soften the design and add a rustic element.
