The change of scenery was a drastic one for the homeowners of this custom kitchen, created by Lori Carroll of Lori Carroll & Associates in Tucson, AZ, with design assistance from Soloway Interiors. A move from a Chicago high-rise to Arizona meant a change in design styles, but not needs. The homeowners still wanted the elements they were leaving behind; in particular a spacious, contemporary chef’s kitchen ideal for cooking and entertaining.
The desert landscape was the inspiration for the 912-sq.-ft. kitchen. Neutral color tones, including Desert Suede paint and honed Napolina limestone flooring, were chosen to create a sense of warmth.
Custom cabinetry provides organized storage, including tall pantry cabinets. Custom White Smoked Oak with horizontal grain cabinetry from Stone River Studio is featured on the perimeter and second island, while stainless steel cabinets grace the first island. Contempo Living’s Twisted cabinet pulls add a contemporary splash.
Polished Night Gold Granite highlights the perimeter of the room, with polished Savanna Brown Quartzite finishing the island bar. A Zero Radius Undermount Single Bowl sink from Houzer teams with Hansgrohe’s Talis S 1-Handle Prep Faucet in this island.
Contrasting with the stainless cabinets of the first island is leathered Bronzo Quartzite, paired with Iroko Endgrain butcher block from Spekva. Finishing it off is the Precis Super Single Undermount stainless sink matched with a Master Gourmet faucet, both from Blanco. Above it, Hudson Valley Massena Pendants provide an industrial vibe.
To meet the cooking needs of this couple, the back wall features a BlueStar 48″ cooktop paired with a custom hood finished in polished Bronzo Quartzite that incorporates the 52″ Pro Hood Liner from Vent-A-Hood. A stainless steel backsplash adds to the space’s contemporary aesthetic, contrasting with Caesar’s Change Series rectangular ceramic tile in Bronze Stave. Turning the corner, a 36″ All Refrigerator and 36″ All Freezer, both from Sub-Zero, stand side by side.
