ATLANTA — The National Association of Home Builders, the Washington, DC-based trade association representing the housing industry, has named James W. Tobin III as the association’s new president and chief executive officer.
Tobin, formerly executive v.p. and chief lobbyist at NAHB, succeeds CEO Jerry Howard, who is retiring from the 140,000-member trade association after more than 30 years. Tobin, who joined the NAHB in 1998, assumes the new post effective June 1.
In his role as exec. v.p., government affairs and chief lobbyist Tobin directed federal, state and local lobbying, as well as political activities for NAHB. He also guided the activities of the association’s political action committee, BUILD-PAC and grassroots network.
“We feel very confident that we’ve selected the best person to represent NAHB and serve as a key voice of the housing industry,” said NAHB Chairman Alicia Huey. “Jim brings more than 20 years of experience in the housing industry to the post.
“His proven track record of success in leading NAHB’s federal legislative advocacy makes him uniquely qualified to lead our association in the years ahead,” Huey added.
