The owners of this North Carolina home were so fed up with the claustrophobia-
inducing low ceilings in their kitchen that they were considering moving to a new home instead of bothering with a renovation. Additionally, a wall with a pass-through window created a disjointed, cramped space ill-suited for entertaining and cooking for a family.

AFTER
Richard Ryder of Clearcut Construction tackled the renovation of the entire home, tearing out the dividing wall and utilizing attic space above the kitchen to boost the ceiling to a breezy 12 feet high. The homeowners, who were a young couple with very little remodeling experience (other than an appearance on HGTV’s Love It or List It), had a long list of wants/needs for the space, so Ryder had to get creative in order to deliver the “wow factor” that the couple desired while staying within their budget. The transitional style of the newly renovated space includes striking herringbone marble tile, a custom wood range hood flanked by floating shelves, a 9¼'x3¾' island with a separate prep sink and deep storage drawers and a refrigerator recessed to be flush with the cabinetry.
