Rev-A-Shelf Marks 300th Custom Home Donation
LOUISVILLE, KY — Homes for Our Troops and Rev-A-Shelf have celebrated a milestone by donating their 300th specially adapted custom home to a wounded U.S serviceman who faced significant challenges living in non-accessible housing.
Army Sergeant Nathan Shumaker and his family were given the keys to their new home in Hillsboro, MO during ceremonies in September, according to Rev-A-Shelf, which has partnered with Homes for Our Troops.
Sgt. Shumaker was seriously wounded in 2010 by an enemy mortar round during a second deployment to Afghanistan. He was unable to use his wheelchair in his previous two-level home and faced hazards in his former home’s bathroom. Now medically retired, he lives in his new custom-designed home with his wife, Missy, and their two children. He earned his master’s degree in social work from St. Louis University in May 2018 and is currently working in that field.
