WASHINGTON, DC — Domestic shipments of major home appliances declined for the second consecutive quarter this year, as high interest rates, inflationary pressures and other industry headwinds continue to impact the housing and remodeling markets, the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers reported.
According to the Washington, DC-based AHAM, major home appliance shipments totaled 18.4 million units from March through June of 2023, down 14.1% from the 21.4 million units that shipped during the same three-month period last year.
Year-to-date shipments for the first six months of this year (36.7 million units) were pacing some 16% below shipments (43.7 million units) for the first six months of 2022, AHAM reported.
Second-quarter declines were posted in all key product categories, including kitchen cleanup (-41.9%), cooking (-7.4%), and food preservation (-10.6%), AHAM added.
