Tile With Style
Kim Bernard, Jillian Anderson, Jessica Richards and Patrick Marisigan, Walker Zanger, North Hills, CA
Walker Zanger wanted a state-of-the-art facility that would wow customers and grow with the company – and designer Kim Bernard was tasked with bringing that vision to life, in conjunction with Jillian Anderson, Jessica Richards and Patrick Marisigan.
Key challenges ran the gamut from the truncated time frame (4.5 months) to the strict California building codes with regard to environmental requirements. Green elements – from skylights and LED lighting to drought-tolerant landscaping – helped to address environmental concerns.
To maximize aesthetic appeal, showroom products are organized into sections by material: ceramic, glass, stone tile, mosaics/specialty stone and porcelain. The sales staff is located in the middle of the showroom, with visual access to the entire space.
While tile has plenty of glam appeal, Bernard wanted to make sure they showcased the product to its best advantage. Custom-designed and fabricated showroom fixtures feature floating soffits and LED lighting that lend drama to the space. A curved wall hosts one square foot of every field tile currently available.
The end result is a dynamic showroom with fresh colors, organically integrated products and a design flexible enough to work for many years to come.
