Light’s Up! Latest Trends in Lighting
Several new lighting design trends have emerged in the home design arena this past year. The strongest predictions were that the blending of natural materials, fabrics and neutral colors into the home will be among this year’s top interior design trends. On the other end of the spectrum the trend forecast confirms that layering finishes and adding some glamor is still in vogue. Here are some examples of how the new lighting collections incorporate these trends with innovative and fresh designs.
A Return to Nature
The trend towards blending natural materials and adding texture can also be seen in wallpaper, tile and even cabinet designs. Kalco understands that adding texture to a light fixture can be both soothing and visually interesting, especially when crafted from capiz shells or woven rattan. Natural materials are also inherently warm, and they bring a handcrafted element to each room, as you can see the craftsmanship in the curves of the rattan or the elegant way the capiz shells are strung together and secured to the fixture.
Tone on Tone
If a room is using neutrals as its base, designers like to add interest by layering other colors (or non-colors such as black), without distracting or off-setting the tone. Matte Black is the perfect solution in this case; warmer than a polished finish, it adds a level of sophistication without overwhelming the other finishes. Using a fixture with a matte black finish will draw the eye up, bringing further dimension to any room.
A Dash of Glamor
Even as we talk about natural materials and neutral colors, the use of crystal fixtures in unexpected ways remains a strong trend. Today’s designs don’t always call for statement-making chandeliers, but more often a perfectly placed crystal sconce or chic pendant will elevate a rooms overall look and feel, providing a dash of glamor. Designers understand that very often using a smaller crystal piece helps reflect the light from larger fixtures, adding additional depth to a room. While crystals bring in glamor, it’s important to remember that they too are inherently natural.
