Dilapidated walls, floors and fireplaces plagued a house with otherwise great bone structure. A narrow galley kitchen along the home’s front allowed for little movement and a basement directly under the kitchen area that resulted in a huge moisture problem.
This kitchen was part of a whole-house renovation that transformed a Cape Cod into a Shingle-style home. The owners sought a sophisticated farmhouse-style kitchen that fit into their rural setting in a historic valley in suburban New Jersey.
To create a contemporary, light-filled space, this project scope encompassed a full demolition and architectural overhaul to open the previously dark, compartmentalized area.
Built in 1906, the owners wanted to remodel their kitchen and chose historic details such as quartersawn oak floors, furniture-quality quartersawn oak island with rounded corners, stained glass on upper cabinets, natural materials and a new passthrough from the kitchen to the dining room.
This kitchen makeover incorporates cabinetry reminiscent of the Victorian/Edwardian Periods while offering differentiation and all the modern amenities.
