Accessible Guest Bath
Christopher Grubb, Arch-Interiors Design Group Inc., Beverly Hills, CA
Christopher Grubb of Arch-Interiors Design Group Inc. was charged with overhauling a small and dated guest bathroom to open up the space both physically and visually. Design challenges included keeping the plumbing in the same place and working within the small footprint, while adding a contemporary look and a more open layout.
The clients wanted a freestanding tub but, because of the wall length, it would not fit at the 45-degree angle typically used. To address this, the Modern Bathroom tub was located on site to fit the space and, by not being angled, the tub ended up having more of a sculpture-like feel.
A floating vanity topped by Caesarstone’s Blizzard with a large mirror above it helps to open up floor space. The client’s desire for a warm, grey color palette was played out with Stonesource Studio Grey 12″x24″ matte porcelain floor tile and Stonesource Zebra Grey 12″x24″ honed limestone wall tile, adding a sense of warmth.
Universal Design elements include the pocket doors, which increase ease of access; the zero-threshold shower with Hansgrohe Raindance showerhead, and the cantilevered shower bench, attached on just two corners like a visual block of stone, with open space beneath it.
