The second-place award in this category also went to Bonnie J. Lewis. The requests for this master bath included a larger wardrobe closet and a design that was aging-in-place friendly. In order to make the space larger and ADA-compliant, Lewis relocated the shower, water closet and wardrobe closet.
A curbless shower with a 60″ turning radius and ACO linear drain included a number of Universal Design products, including a fold-down Serena Seat and Invisia support bars from Health Craft. A handheld Linden showerhead with a six-foot hose and offset controls from Delta Faucet was also installed.
The custom vanity features a dual-height slab countertop with two Kohler Ladena undermount sinks and Delta Faucet Linden single-handle lavatory faucets in Venetian Bronze.
The Daltile Forest Park slip-resistant porcelain tile and travertine plank tile flooring lead back to the 36″-wide, wheelchair accessible water closet and wardrobe closet doorways.
Lighting was a final critical consideration in the space, to assist with the client’s visual impairment. A Solatube skylight floods the room with natural light, while a Sausalito Ceiling Light and Pendant Lights from Troy Lighting and Hudson Valley Selkirk Wall Sconces brighten up the shower and vanity areas.
