BEFORE
This Orinda, CA home was purchased by a bachelor hoping to make it his “forever” home. Desiring a sophisticated yet comfortable and functional space with a masculine flair, he engaged the design services of designer Kim Harrison of Kimberley Harrison Interiors for the complete remodel of this dated kitchen. The homeowner requested that metal elements be incorporated to reflect his career as the third-generation owner of an iron and steel company.

AFTER
Because the kitchen benefits from an abundance of natural light, dark and moody elements could be incorporated into the kitchen without creating too gloomy an atmosphere. In order to create contrast and drama, complementary marble slabs were selected for the countertop, island and walls, while painted black island cabinetry provides additional contrast with the custom white oak cabinetry on the perimeter. The desired touches of metal are a distinctive presence in the kitchen and include mixed-metal cabinetry hardware. Sand-blasted glass dome pendants suspended by leather straps create an eye-catching and distinctly masculine focal point above the island. Stainless steel appliances, such as a KitchenAid dual-fuel freestanding range and a Bosch stainless steel hood, deliver an added touch of industrial flair.
